Fall and Apples

Well we were lucky enough to have off on Friday this week, so I kept boo boo home and we had a busy day.  At school this week he was studying apples so we started the day off with an apple craft.  I drew an apple on a piece of paper, G helped me tear up red paper.  Then g, put glue on the apple and stuck the paper all over the apple.

Then to top the apple unit off we took boo boo to the apple orchard and let him pick out his own apples.
What a way to help him learn all about apples.

When we got home that night we made Crock Pot Apple sauce. YUM

Crock Pot Applesauce\

This makes enough for 4 people. If you would like to freeze or can, use more apples.

--4 large apples, skinned ,cored, and cut in quarters

--juice from 1 lemon

--1/2 tsp cinnamon

--1 tsp vanilla

--1 T brown sugar

--1/4 cup water

The Directions.

I used a 4 quart crockpot for the applesauce.

Skin, core, and cut your apples into quarters.
Plop the pieces into your crockpot. Add the juice from the lemon, and the water. Pour in the vanilla, and add the cinnamon and brown sugar.

Cover and cook on low for 4-8 hours. When the apples are super tender, mash with a potato masher or large fork. I let mine cook over night , and then I used a mixter to mix them into a sauce.

Salt Painting - a Hit and a Flop

Well we had a day off for Elections and I got to stay home with my boo boo.... woo hoo.. Anyway I had seen this cool project I thought we would try.  Salt Painting, we started by covering some blue paper with glue.

Then we dumped some salt on the glue to make a neat pattern picture.  My little Guy loved dumping the salt.  I used the top of a copy box so that I could shake the excess salt off and not have a huge mess :)

After we let the cool design dry, we added water color to it, this is where this project flopped for me....(its supposed to travel down the salt tracks)  It still looked cool after it was over.  Not sure how to fix my issues.. maybe I will try again later.

The bottom line is that boo boo had a blast and was proud of his picture at the end.

Ps.. this is not a keeper project..  the salt does flake off... so take a photo of it to remember it.

Let me know if you have better luck doing this than we did.
