What happens when you are running late

Well yesterday I had to have G at school early in order to catch my ride to DC for the day.  I had great plans of waking up early and putting together his lunch (why I didn't do it the night before I do not know) well I woke up super late and had to throw something together... I thought for about 30 seconds that he was not going to get a "special" lunch till I looked in the fridge.

Here is what I came up with...

I had some left over green rice from the other day and that became the grass.. I had hotdogs so sliced them up and cut them up with my new tiny flower cutter... Cut out a tulip out of cheese, with some edible markers, some pretzel sticks for the stem.. a strawberry and carrot flower in a cup and to complete the meal.. a cup cake.  Not too shabby for 5 min.....  he had his yogurt and juice too.

Had a great day in DC visiting the Library of  Congress!

Here is the view of the Capital from right outside the Library of Congress.

Great day and it was Beautiful!

Next time I have to take a work trip I will remember to be a bit more organized.

Have a great weekend

Pizza and Chips

So last night G came to me and said.. in his cute 3 year old way..  Mommy, tomorrow can I have pizza and chips in my lunch.. it doesn't need to be a special lunch..... oiy my breaking heart... no special lunch... well I decided that I would grant his wish and still make it fun (and special)

So Today....

We have Pizza in the shape of flowers, Apple slices cored with a flower cutter (same I used on the smaller pizza) his chips he asked for and some carrots..  I hope he is happy with it.
He still wanted his yogurt and juice, so that is in his box to.

Buzzzzz

We were lucky here today, schools had a 2 hour delay due to thick fog so G and I got to hang out this morning and play.  We played trains, read books and started a Spring painting craft... wish I could have more days like this, but then the two hours were up and we were both off to school...

So today's lunch is  Buzzing with Bees .. G is learning a poem about Bee's in school today so his lunch had to represent that.

(sorry it's a tad bit fuzzy today, must start using my good camera)

I used my new cookies cutters for the bread with my edible markers, the bees are little birds actually, but I think they can pass (we all know how great my free handed stuff is) made out of cheese.

He has the leftover cheese and some pepperoni, carrots, and strawberries, pretzels and a cookie.
His yougurt and juice are also in his box.

Bunnies

Yesterday the polar express truck (what G class the UPS truck) brought me some new Spring cutters!
Wilton Easter 18pc Metal Cookie Cutter Set
I love using Amazon Prime to ship my things...It also brought G a gift from his YaYa.. that made him so happy :).So with my new cutters and something that was in the box from YaYa. I came up with doing Bunnies...

He has green (colored with my natural food colors) rice, with a bunny hot dog... a cheese bunny with the floppy ear (from my new cutters) he has carrots, (thats what bunnies eat) and strawberries (bunnies like those to) His treat today is a bunny peep (that's from YaYa).  His yogurt and juice box are in his lunchbox (ok my lunchbox because I left HIS box at school yesterday... don't know where my mind has been)

He got to help me build this lunch, so I think he will be super excited today.

His yogurt and juice box are in the bag too.

I found this idea on pinterest and kind of adapted it.....

Its a deconstructed sandwich (bread, and a slice of cheese), with painted feet across them...
he then has pretzel sticks (walking sticks) , slices of carrots (gold coins), peaches (more gold), rainbow airhead with lucky charms and some pepperoni.

Can't wait for him to see it and see if he "gets" it.

If I had really thought I would of done a Pi lunch today for (3/14), but I kept going with the St. Patrick's day theme.

Shamrocks

St. Patricks day theme continues with Easy Shamrocks (I was kind of tired so I went easy).

the shamrocks are just bread using my very old shamrock cutter, it is actually from a set of "card" cutters, so it is only a 3 leaf :)  G has shamrock cheese under the bread.  He also has, carrots (gold coins), shamrock cucumbers and the pieces that were left over from cutting them out I turned into a cucumber chain :) He has pepperoni, cut apples and as  a treat lucky charms.

No yogurt today.. we are running low, we will see what he has to say about that when he gets home.

Big Al and Shrimpy

Book for the Day Big Al and Shrimpy

This book is the sequel to Monday's Book Big Al. G loves this book too, his favorite part is when Big Al falls into the big deep and he see a great big fish. So this lunch kid of represents this.

Lunch... The big deep is his leftover rice from his dinner (his request) a hotdog fish and a bread rock. The big fish outside is made all from cheese. He has the rest of the cheese, mandarin oranges and a cookie for his treat.

His yogurt and juice are in his box as normal.

The Grouchy Ladybug

Today's Story is.... The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle

G loves this story, especially when the grouchy ladybug says.. Hey you want to fight! I can't wait to use it to really help him with telling time.. at 3 he realizes it changes but not really any other concept.

 Onto his lunch

The ladybug is made from a goldfish bread (didn't have any rounds) with the tail cut off. Cheese wings, I used a straw to cut the holes :). The eyes are provolone cheese with colored spots. The ladybug is on lettuce to represent the leaves he sits on. G already told me he would not be eating the salad... a mom can try right.. In the cups he has aphid carrots, and cheese (ok circles), mandarin oranges, some ham and gummy bugs.. of course juice and yogurt too.

Bats at the Ballgame

Today's Story is
Bats at the Ballgame
by Brian Lies.

Another one of G's favorites, Daddy reads it to him most of the time (I think he likes it too)  G's favorite part is when the umpire yells OUT!. So I had to make his lunch represent that part...

I got a chance to use my new mini assorted pack of water-based natural color powders.. I won them from the Blog What's in John's Lunch Bag (Love her lunches).  I still need to figure out a good water to powder ratio, but I like them.

His lunch is the tent from bread and stripes painted on ... The bat is made from a bear cookie cutter (going for ease here people) and wing that I cut out freehand.  I tried to mimic the wings in the book and well we all know how artistic I am.... ha...  I also cut out G's favorite part OUT out of cheese.
In the cups he has the left over cheese and pepperoni and carrots and strawberries.  Of course he has his yogurt, juice and his treat this week a cupcake.

If the Dinosaurs Came Back

Book of the Day: If Dinosaurs Came Back by Bernard Most
In this book a boy imagines what dinosaurs would do if they came back. G love this book, his favorite thing they do is go for a ride in the ocean on a dinosaur

So his lunch is... the buildings are made out of rolled out bread, the dinos are from cheese.... He has cheese and pepperoni, apple slices, and carrots in the silcone cups, (I think I may need to invest in some Easy Lunchboxes ) He of course has his yogurt and juice and as a treat a small cupcake.

Book Week :)

Well G's school is doing Dr. Seuss this week and since I already did that theme last week. I thought I would just do a literature link this week, and feature a book and the lunch.

Today is Big Al, but Andrew Clements.  This book is one of G's favorite.  It is about a fish who is big and clumsy and has no friends. He tries very hard to get friends... you will have to check it out to see if he is successful.

So onto the lunch...

Hubby went to the store for me yesterday and without me even having it on the list spotted the goldfish bread and thought it would be great for me and G!  Score...
The bread has some melted cheese in between it.. it is on a bed of lettuce (for the seaweed) and he has some more cheese fishes around it. Goldfish crackers swim around too.  In the cups we have.. the leftover cheese, carrots, strawberries and an octopus hot dog. (he of course has his yogurt, a cupcake and juice too)

I love it!

Green Eggs and Ham

So today is Green Ham and Egg lunch... kind of proud of this one

The eggs are cheese open sandwiches with a green m and m as the yoke. The ham is two ways (sound like Top Chef...hahaha)
 1) is actually a hot dog dyed green with a piece of cheese in it for the bone
 2) is the ham dyed green
He also has cheddar cheese, pretzels, flower cucumbers and a few more m and m's sprinkled near the cheese
and.... as always yogurt and juice go with it. hope he likes it.... and tries the green ham

Printique - awesome

I had the opportunity to try a new Photo printing site. Printique.  They are part of the Adorama Pix family which I love..  It was super ea...
